Amazon launched a “Global Selling” program in our country back in 2015. Sellers who are part of it can export their products through Amazon and currently, there are over 60,000 Indian sellers exporting products to 15 Amazon websites worldwide. All in total, they exported products of more than $2 billion, roughly 15,000 crores INR.
The figure is a fraction of the company’s annual export which was of around $530 billion, nearly 40 lakh crores INR, in the financial year 2019-2020.
Gopal Pillai, the Vice President for seller services, Amazon India, in a telephonic interview with Reuters, said, “It took us three years plus to hit the first billion dollars. Today we are able to hit the next billion dollars, 100 percent growth in the last 18 months”. He also believes the things in India are going in the right direction for the company.
The main foreign market for our Indian sellers is the US and apparel, jewelry, home items are in lead. To boost the sale there, Amazon annually organizes various shopping events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Similarly, through Prime Day, Amazon brings foreign businesses in our country.
The company is expecting the exportation growth from the Indian sellers’ side will be maintained further.
