India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI: The hosts won the match by 8 wickets

In the 2nd ODI of India vs New Zealand, the latter posted a low total of 108 runs. The Indian batters had shown a spectacular performance to chase the target in just 20 overs with eight wickets still left. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma scored 51 off 50 deliveries and Shubman Gill smashed the winning runs. The Match was held at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Cricket Stadium in Raipur.

The hosts won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Indian bowlers dominated the first innings dismissing all the players in 34.3 overs. In the first innings, Mohammad Shami picked three wickets, Hardik Pandya and Washington Sundar bagged two and Mohammad Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Kuldeep Yadav scalped one each.

Phillips scored 36 runs and Mitchel Santer hit two fours off Kuldeep. He got dismissed as soon as New Zealand breached 100. Devon Conway scored the first boundary of the innings in the ninth over but he was sent back to the pavilion by Hardik Pandya.

In the second innings, Rohit Sharma started the innings and crossed the half-century mark. Shubman Gill mustered 10 runs less than a half-century and by 20.1 overs, India clinched the win. Rohit Sharma had the perfect cut for the boundaries while Shubman Gill took his sweet time to smash the boundaries. Virat Kohli got out scoring just 11 runs but he smashed two fours to henry Shipley.

Since 2001, 15 for 4, New Zealand’s total at the end of the tenth over in today’s game was the second lowest. Previously, it was 14 against Australia in Cairns in 2022.

India is set to face New Zealand in the third ODI on January 24 in Indore at 1:30 PM
