It was a good day for Team India. Players like Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Shreyas Iyer scored half-centuries as in the Day 1 of 1st Test in Kanpur. Mayank Aggarwal made 13 runs, with Jadeja and Iyer India posted 258/4 (both not out).

India opted to bat first at Green Park in Kanpur. India lagged behind when Mayank Aggarwal had to return to the pavilion after the 8th over. Cheteshwar Pujara and Shubman Gill had a partnership of of 61 runs.

New Zealand had a comeback taking away 3 wickets giving only 63 runs. Kyle Jamieson got two wickets while Tim Southee dismissed Cheteshwar Pujara. Ravindra Jadeja and Shreyas Iyer had a steady partnership that helped India achieving the score.

Shreyas Iyer who got the opportunity to play in place of Virat Kohli, made the most out of it. He made 75 runs out of 136 balls and strengthened India’s middle order. On the other hand, experienced players like Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara couldn’t live up to the expectations.

The Young talent Shreyas Iyer had a great game today. But a young Iyer carried on in the two’s absence on the crease. His perfect shots against New Zealand helped India achieve 258/4 at the end of the day. Both Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja remained not out at 75 and 50 respectively. Kyle Jamieson on the other hand, took 3 wickets giving only 47 runs.

BCCI tweeted

“A moment to cherish for @ShreyasIyer15 as he receives his #TeamIndia Test cap from Sunil Gavaskar – one of the best to have ever graced the game.”

Indian fans expect to whitewash New Zealand just like the recent T20I series against New Zealand. Rohit Sharma and Virat kohli had already opted out from the series, KL Rahul had a muscle injury for which he won’t be playing the series.

Ajinkya Rahane will be guiding the Indian team in absence of Kohli and it is expected that Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane have a good middle-order.

India being unbeaten against New Zealand in test Series

  • India has won all the Test series against New Zealand since 1998
  • New Zealand has never won a Test series in India
  • The Kiwis have just won 2 matches out of 34 they have played in India
