The Indian cricket team remained on top with 240 points in the ICC World Test Championship standings as they secured a 3-0 triumph over South Africa.

In the three-match Test series against South Africa, India won the first Test by 203 runs and the second by an innings 137 runs. The third in Ranchi saw the home side completing a whitewash by winning the Test by an innings and 202 runs.

It took India just 12 deliveries to complete the formalities as it beat South Africa by an innings and 202 in the final Test at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.

With this win, the Virat Kohli-led side recorded its 11th straight win at home and broke Australia’s record. As the team completed their first-ever whitewash against South Africa.

India kicked-off their World Test Championship campaign with a 2-match series away in West Indies where India secured a 2-0 triumph to add 120 points to their tally. The 3-match series against South Africa at home then saw the hosts beat the Proteas by an innings in the second and the third match, after the first was a closely-fought encounter.

From the 9 teams which are participating in the tournament, only Bangladesh and Pakistan are yet to open their campaign. India, meanwhile, have played the joint-most number of matches (5), with England and Australia. Although the five matches that England and Australia played were part of the same series (Ashes 2019).

The format of the ICC Test Championship sees a total of 120 points being reserved for a series, no matter if it is a 2-match assignment or a 5-match. The points are allocated per match but the exact value assigned for an individual Test depends on the number of matches there are in the series. For instance, in a 2-match series, every win will earn a team 60 points while in a 3-match series, the points assigned for every victory would be 40 points.

The gap between India and New Zealand is huge as the table toppers enjoy a lead of 180 points over second placed New Zealand who have 60 points. Third placed Sri Lanka also have 60 points and is followed by Australia (56 points) and England (56 points).

As part of the ICC Test Championship schedule, the Indian team will be next up against Bangladesh in a 2-match series which will start on November 14 in Indore.

The total point of rest of the teams is 232 whereas India alone has 240 points.
