It was indeed a day to remember for Indian shooting enthusiasts as the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team also made their mark. Comprising Sift Kaur Samra, Ashi Chouksey, and Manini Koushik, they secured the silver medal with a total of 1764 points. This win added another precious medal to India’s growing tally at the Asian Games.

A Thrilling Duel with China

In the 25m pistol team event, the cumulative scores of a country’s shooting trio are vital. India’s triumphant trio outshone their Chinese counterparts after two days of intense qualification rounds, excelling in both precision and rapid categories. While India clinched gold with 1759 points, China settled for silver with a score of 1756, showcasing the tight competition at the Asian Games.

Individual Brilliance

The individual performances of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rhythm Sangwan also stood out. Manu Bhaker secured the top spot in the precision round with a score of 294 (14x). Esha Singh wasn’t far behind, sharing the second position with 292 (9x). Rhythm Sangwan held her ground with a score of 290 (6x), securing the 11th position. Collectively, these performances contributed to India’s overall dominance on the leaderboard.

Road to the Finals

Following the qualification rounds, Manu Bhaker led the pack with a total score of 590 (28x inner 10s). Esha Singh followed closely with 586 points, earning her the fifth place. Unfortunately, Rhythm Sangwan missed the opportunity to compete in the final, as only two shooters from a country are allowed to participate. Manu and Esha were all set for the final showdown, scheduled for 12 PM IST.

Historic Gold in Men’s 10m Air Rifle

Before this triumph, India had already made history in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle event. Aishwary Pratap Singh, Rudrankksh Patil, and Divyansh Panwar clinched India’s first gold medal in the 2023 Asian Games, marking a significant milestone in the competition.

Silver Lining: Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team

Sift Kaur Samra, Ashi Chouksey, and Manini Koushik continued India’s medal-winning streak by securing the silver medal in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team event. Their total score of 1764 points showcased their skill and determination on the grand stage.

In the qualification round, Sift Kaur Samra was in a league of her own, scoring an impressive 594 (28x) points and securing the second position. Ashi Chouksey’s consistent performance earned her the sixth spot with 590 (27x) points. Meanwhile, Manini Kaushik finished in the 18th position with a total of 580 (28x) points. Together, these scores propelled them to the silver medal in the team event.

China Takes Gold, South Korea Takes Bronze

Hosts China showcased their dominance by clinching the gold medal with an aggregate score of 1773 in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions Team event. Meanwhile, South Korea displayed their prowess with a total score of 1756, earning them the bronze medal.

Sift Kaur Samra’s Record-Breaking Performance

In the final, Sift Kaur Samra added to India’s golden haul by securing the top spot with a remarkable score of 469.6. Her performance also shattered the previous world record held by Great Britain’s Seonaid McIntosh, who had achieved a score of 467 earlier in the year in Baku.

Bronze for Ashi Chouksey

The joy of India’s fifth gold medal at the Asian Games was complemented by Ashi Chouksey’s outstanding performance, earning her a bronze medal with a score of 451.9 points in the final.
