India Relay Team – Asian Relay Championships 2024 : India’s 4x400m mixed relay team delivered a stellar performance at the Asian Relay Championships 2024, setting a new national record and clinching the gold medal. The quartet, comprising Muhammad Ajmal, Jyothika Sri, Amoj Jacob, and Subha Venkatesan, clocked an impressive 3:14.12, surpassing the previous national record of 3:14.34 set at the Asian Games 2023.
Let’s have a look into more details : India Relay Team – Asian Relay Championships 2024
The Indian team dominated the race from start to finish, outpacing their competitors with ease. Sri Lanka secured the silver medal with a time of 3:17.00, while Vietnam took the bronze with 3:18.45. This victory highlights the growing prowess of Indian athletes on the continental stage.
Breaking Records – Missing Olympic Qualification
Despite their record breaking performance, the Indian team fell short of the crucial target needed to qualify for the Paris Olympics. To make the cut, they needed to beat the time of 3:13.56 to secure the 16th spot on the Road to Paris list. Currently, the Czech Republic and Italy hold the 15th and 16th positions with times of 3:11.98 and 3:13.56, respectively.
Road to Paris: The Challenge Ahead
India’s current ranking of 21st on the Road to Paris list indicates a challenging path ahead. Only sixteen teams will compete in the mixed 4x400m relay event at the Paris Olympics, and with fourteen teams already qualified from the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, only two spots remain.
To enhance their chances, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) might consider sending the team to international competitions before the June 30 deadline to improve their timing and secure an Olympic berth.
India’s men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams are set to compete on Day 2 of the Asian Relay Championships. Both teams successfully qualified for the Paris Olympics during the second round qualification heat races, showcasing India’s depth in relay events.
