India Opens Doors: Free 30-Day Visas Now Available for Kazakhstan Citizens

In a groundbreaking move to strengthen bilateral ties, India has announced free visas for citizens of Kazakhstan for up to 30 days, marking a significant milestone in Indo-Central Asian relations. This reciprocal gesture comes as both nations seek to boost tourism and cultural exchange.

What’s the Big News?

Ambassador Y. K. Sailas Thangal announced the decision during India’s 77th Republic Day reception in Astana, revealing that the measure aims to promote bilateral tourism and people-to-people contacts. This comes after Kazakhstan already granted visa-free travel to Indians back in 2022.

Who Benefits from This Policy?

Tourists & Travelers: Kazakh nationals planning leisure trips to explore India’s rich heritage—from the Taj Mahal to Kerala’s backwaters—can now enjoy hassle-free, cost-free entry.

Medical Tourism: The visa facility covers those traveling for medical treatment and accompanying persons, positioning India as an accessible healthcare destination for Central Asian visitors.

Cultural Exchange: With simplified travel procedures, students, artists, and cultural enthusiasts can engage more freely, strengthening the historical Silk Road connections between the nations.

The Bigger Picture: India-Kazakhstan Relations

This visa announcement isn’t happening in isolation. Kazakhstan remains India’s largest trading partner in Central Asia, with bilateral trade around $1 billion, though both countries recognize untapped potential in energy, logistics, healthcare, and technology sectors.

Tourism is already thriving—approximately 250,000 Indian citizens visited Kazakhstan in 2025, demonstrating growing interest in Central Asian destinations. For insights on India’s expanding global tourism partnerships, this development signals a strategic shift toward deeper regional engagement.

How to Apply for the Free Visa

The visa facility will be available through both online applications and in-person submissions at the Embassy of India. Applicants should prepare standard documents including passport copies, travel itineraries, and accommodation proof, though specific requirements will be detailed on official channels.

The reciprocal nature of this agreement—building on Kazakhstan’s 2022 visa-free policy for Indians—demonstrates genuine commitment to facilitating people-to-people connections beyond diplomatic rhetoric.
