India’s telecom landscape witnessed significant shifts in October 2025, with Reliance Jio adding the most subscribers while Vodafone Idea continued its downward spiral. The TRAI data released November 28, 2025, shows total wireless subscribers increased from 1,170.44 million in September to 1,171.87 million in October, indicating modest 0.12% monthly growth.

Market Leader Jio Dominates Growth

Reliance Jio added 19.97 lakh new subscribers in October 2025, reaching a total mobile user base of 48.47 crore. This represents Jio’s highest monthly gain among all operators, reinforcing its position as India’s largest telecom provider with over 41% market share.

Bharti Airtel added 1.25 million wireless subscribers, while BSNL added 269,215 subscribers during the same period. Airtel maintains its second-place position with nearly 40 crore subscribers, focusing on premium customer acquisition and improved ARPU (Average Revenue Per User).

Vodafone Idea’s Continuing Crisis

Vodafone Idea lost 20.83 lakh wireless subscribers, with its mobile user base dropping to 20.07 crore in October from 20.28 crore in September. This marks another month of significant subscriber losses for the struggling operator, raising concerns about its long-term viability without fresh capital infusion.

The company’s market share has now fallen to just 17.13%, down from over 30% just a few years ago, highlighting the urgent need for network modernization and competitive pricing strategies.
