Razorpay, NPCI, and OpenAI have joined forces to launch Agentic Payments on ChatGPT, transforming AI assistants into full shopping agents that can complete purchases seamlessly. Currently in pilot stage, this initiative brings conversational commerce to India’s 20 billion monthly UPI transactions.

Imagine asking ChatGPT: “Help me order ingredients for a Thai-style vegetable curry for 4 people from BigBasket.” The AI agent checks BigBasket’s catalog, presents product options, and with single confirmation, places the order via Razorpay’s payment stack.

Users retain full control with real-time tracking and instant revocation—ensuring secure, user-first shopping without leaving the AI environment.

From Discovery to Transaction

Today, consumers already discover products through AI assistants like ChatGPT, exploring options and comparing prices conversationally. Agentic Payments completes the loop by enabling seamless transactions within the same interface.

The initiative combines NPCI’s trusted UPI infrastructure (powering 20 billion+ monthly transactions) with OpenAI’s cutting-edge AI models. Built on UPI innovations like UPI Circle and UPI Reserve Pay, it delivers AI-native shopping experiences.
