Ind vs Pak: Suryakumar Yadav Mimics Usman Tariq’s Controversial Action in Viral Training Video

Ind vs Pak preparations reached tactical peak as captain Suryakumar Yadav was caught on camera perfectly imitating Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq’s controversial stop-start bowling action during India’s training session in Colombo. The viral video showcases India’s meticulous preparation strategy ahead of Sunday’s high-stakes T20 World Cup 2026 encounter.

Ind vs Pak Match Overview

SKY’s “Out-of-Syllabus” Preparation

The ICC-shared training footage shows Suryakumar Yadav bowling to teammates Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, and Ishan Kishan while replicating Tariq’s distinctive pause-and-deliver technique. The captain’s hands-on leadership approach ensures batters experience the quirky rhythm before facing it in match conditions.

At the pre-match press conference, Suryakumar addressed the Usman Tariq challenge with characteristic wit: “Sometimes in the exam, there’s a question out of the syllabus. You can’t leave that question—you have to find a way to tackle it. Yes, he’s a different character when he comes to bowl, but we can’t just surrender.”

The ind vs pak clash intensifies as both teams employ contrasting tactical approaches—India preparing meticulously while Pakistan bank on Tariq as their trump card.

Understanding Usman Tariq’s Controversial Action

The 28-year-old off-spinner’s unique action features:

• Pronounced pause at the crease with landing foot suspended mid-air
• Stop-start rhythm that disrupts batter timing
• Side-arm delivery angle creating unusual trajectory
• Delayed release causing anticipation difficulties

Despite accusations of “chucking” from Australia’s Cameron Green and legality questions from Kevin Pietersen, the ICC has cleared Tariq’s action twice. Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha called him their “trump card,” stating: “He has been cleared by the ICC, so I don’t understand why everyone is discussing him.”

Ashwin’s Bold Tactical Suggestion

Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin proposed a controversial counter-strategy: “If Tariq pauses before delivery, the batter has the right to move away. The batter can say, ‘I don’t know when the ball is coming, so I moved away.’ I want to see who dares to do that.”

This unprecedented tactic could force umpires to intervene if batters repeatedly pull away, potentially disrupting Tariq’s rhythm and confidence.

India’s Spin Challenge

The ind vs pak match at spin-friendly R. Premadasa Stadium presents additional complications. India struggled against spin in previous matches:

• vs USA: Lost 3 wickets, scored 42 runs in 8 spin overs
• vs Namibia: Lost 5 wickets, scored 61 runs in 8 spin overs

Pakistan plan deploying five spinners (Abrar Ahmed, Usman Tariq, Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan), potentially bowling 20 overs of spin—an unprecedented strategy.

Abhishek Sharma’s Return Boost

Major boost for India as Abhishek Sharma returned to full training after recovering from stomach infection. The left-handed opener batted for 30 minutes, smashing Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy aggressively while Suryakumar bowled Tariq-style deliveries to him.

Abhishek’s return provides crucial firepower against Pakistan’s spin attack, with his aggressive approach potentially unsettling Tariq’s rhythm before he settles into his groove.

Indoor Training Due to Rain

Light but persistent rain forced India’s session indoors, limiting outdoor preparations. Despite weather challenges, the intensity remained high with batters working extensively against spin variations.

Pakistan’s advantage of playing all matches in Sri Lanka provides greater familiarity with conditions heading into this ind vs pak blockbuster.

The Viral Video Impact

The training footage went viral across social media platforms, with cricket fans appreciating India’s tactical preparation. Star Sports Kannada shared the video with caption: “SKY ft. Usman Tariq. Something is being planned against Pakistan!”

Suryakumar’s willingness to personally demonstrate the unusual action—rather than delegating to net bowlers—highlights his proactive leadership style and commitment to team preparation.

What’s at Stake

Both teams enter unbeaten in the tournament, making this ind vs pak encounter crucial for Group A supremacy and confidence heading into the knockout stages. India seek their sixth consecutive T20I victory over Pakistan, maintaining their dominant head-to-head record.
