England had a lead of 42 runs after stumps on Day one of the third test match against India. Following their dominance, the hosts were expected to get a big first-innings lead on day two. Consequently, the English batsmen delivered with big scores and fulfilled all the expectations of their fans.
England finished day two with 423-8 and as a result, Indian batsmen will have a huge task ahead on day four. Getting into the details of today’s play, Shami and Jadeja broke through the defences of English openers early into the first session. As a result, the hosts had two new batsmen on the crease and were in need of a partnership. Joe Root and Dawid Malan just as per the requirement and added more misery to the Indian bowlers by piling runs quickly.
Both the batsmen reached their respective half-centuries and it seemed like a long day for the Indian bowlers. However, Siraj managed to break the partnership by dismissing Malan for 70. Although Root was unfazed and continued his outstanding form as he soon raced towards his third test century.
India face an uphill task ahead against England in the Third test match
After gaining a good lead, Root and Bairstow decided to up the ante and started playing aggressively. However, while doing that Jonny Bairstow lost his wicket to Shami. Subsequently, England collapsed as Butler, Root and Moeen Ali were sent back to the pavilion in the span of seven overs.
However, the resurgence of Indian bowlers was too late as England gained a first innings lead of 300 runs. Following those quick dismissals, Craig Overton and Sam Curran added a 40 runs partnership. Few overs before stumps, Mohammed Siraj dismissed Curran. As a result, England ended the day’s play with a huge first innings lead of 345 runs.
Therefore India will try to dismiss the English tail quickly tomorrow. Moreover, they will face an uphill task tomorrow and every Indian batsmen will have to display their courage and score big in order to save the test match. As of now, England are in the driving seat to win the third test match against India.
