What Imtiaz Actually Said

Speaking at the International Film Festival of Delhi 2026, Imtiaz was refreshingly upfront. He acknowledged he hadn’t seen the film but said he knows it has many beautiful things in it and that audiences loved it deeply. Most significantly, he expressed gratitude to the Dhurandhar team for accomplishing something the entire film industry has been trying to do for years — bringing people back to theatres in massive numbers. He sent his heartfelt congratulations to the whole team.

Coming from a filmmaker of Imtiaz’s stature — someone who has built entire cinematic worlds through intimate, emotionally grounded storytelling — this kind of praise for a high-octane action spectacle carries real weight. It speaks to how universally the industry recognises what Dhurandhar 2 has achieved.

Imtiaz Also Opened Up About His Next Film

The director also spoke warmly about his continued creative partnership with Diljit Dosanjh, calling it an incredibly inspiring working relationship. Describing it as a matter of good fortune, he revealed that Main Vaapas Aaunga marks the first time he’s worked with the same actor in back-to-back films — a reflection of the deep creative bond he has formed with Diljit since Amar Singh Chamkila. The film also stars Vedang Raina, Sharvari, and Naseeruddin Shah, with a teaser already out. It promises to be a deeply emotional love story set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition — quintessential Imtiaz Ali territory.
