IMEI number tracking: Here’s how to track your IMEI number in case of emergency
IMEI number tracking: C-DoT, the technology arm of the Department of Technology (DoT), has recently launched the Sanchar Saathi platform, a nationwide service designed to help smartphone users track and block their lost or stolen mobile phones. This platform is freely available for use across the entire country and utilizes the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) to provide these essential functionalities.
Prior to its nationwide rollout, Sanchar Saathi underwent a successful pilot run in selected telecom circles, including Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and North East regions. Now, smartphone owners all over India can take advantage of this service to safeguard their devices.
In the unfortunate event of losing a phone, users can quickly block their device by providing its IMEI number through the Sanchar Saathi platform. Once the blocking process is complete, the stolen or lost phone becomes non-operational on any network, rendering it useless for any unauthorized user.
Follow these steps to utilize the Sanchar Saathi platform and track/block your lost or stolen mobile phone:
Step 1: Visit the website https://sarcharsaathi.gov.in
Step 2: Click on the 'Block your lost/stolen mobile' option.

Step 3: Enter your device details, including the mobile number, IMEI number, device brand, and device model. You will also need to upload the purchase invoice of the phone.
Step 4: Provide the information about when and where you lost your device, including the city, district, state, and date.
Step 5: Enter your personal information, such as name, address, email ID, and ID proof.
Step 6: To receive an OTP (One-Time Password), provide your mobile number.
Step 7: Verify the OTP by entering it as prompted.
Step 8: Accept the declaration and click on the Submit button.
Step 9: After successful registration, log in to your account.
Step 10: To locate your lost/stolen phone, click on the 'IMEI Search' button and provide the requested details. The portal will display your phone's location if it is switched on.
Step 11: To block your phone, click on the 'Block Stolen/Lost Phone' option, enter your phone number, and click 'Block'.
To access and use the Sanchar Saathi platform, users must keep the FIR (First Information Report) copy of their lost or stolen phone readily available. This FIR copy serves as a crucial piece of information required to track the phone effectively through the Sanchar Saathi website.
By incorporating this requirement, the platform adds an extra layer of security, ensuring that only legitimate owners can regain control of their misplaced devices and protect their data from potential misuse.
