The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to introduce a few big changes in the rules of T20 International. Now along with slow-over rate penalty, one less fielder will be permitted outside of the 30-yard circle for the remaining overs of the innings. The changes will come into effect with the upcoming one-off match between West Indies and Ireland at the Sabina ParkĀ

Latest rules introduced by ICC in the T20 tournament

1. In-match penalty for slow over-rate

On Friday, ICC introduced in-match penalty for slow over-rate. In such a case, a bowling team should be in the situation to bowl for the first ball of the final over of that specific innings by the scheduled or rescheduled time. If they don’t abide by this rule, one less fielder will be outside the 30-yard circle for the remaining overs. This will ensure a slow over-rate.

2. Optional drinks Break

Inclusion of Optional drinks breaks for two minutes and thirty seconds at the mid-point of each inning. For this, all the members must be agreeing before the start of each series.

Why did ICC decide to change the rules?

The recommended changes were the idea of ICC to improve the pace in every format, thus increasing the effectiveness. ECB had introduced similar playing conditions for the Hundred Competition which again proved to be very fruitful.
