Over Monday and Tuesday, the Five Teams of the Year recipients will be revealed, followed by the announcement of the 13 individual award winners on Wednesday and Thursday. An independent panel of media representatives, forming the ICC Voting Academy, selected the five teams.

The initial awards on January 22 will include the Men’s T20I Team of the Year and Women’s T20I Team of the Year. On January 23, the Men’s ODI Team of the Year, Women’s ODI Team of the Year, and the Men’s Test Team of the Year will be announced.

The culmination of the awards will take place on Thursday, January 25, with the presentation of the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year and the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year. Notably, the previous edition in 2022 saw Babar Azam and Nat Sciver crowned as the men’s and women’s cricketers of the year, respectively. In anticipation of the 2023 ceremony, Virat Kohli and Pat Cummins are among the favorites for individual honors, while Australia is expected to perform well in the team categories.

Suryakumar Yadav Clinches ICC T20I Player of the Year Award in 2023 with Sensational Performances

India’s dynamic middle-order batsman, Suryakumar Yadav, has been honored with the prestigious Best T20I Player of the Year award. His exceptional performance in 2023, with a striking rate of nearly 150 and an impressive average of around 50 in the shortest format, has rightfully earned him this recognition. As Suryakumar Yadav recuperates from his injury, he is expected to play a pivotal role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Yadav’s remarkable stats include scoring 733 runs in 17 innings at an average of 48.86 and an impressive strike rate of 155.95. Noteworthy performances during the series against West Indies and Sri Lanka in 2023 contributed to his outstanding record. Additionally, he showcased his prowess by achieving half-centuries against Australia (80 off 42 balls) and South Africa (56 from 36 balls). In the final T20I of the year against South Africa in Johannesburg, he posted an impressive century, scoring 100 runs off just 56 balls.

One of the standout innings was his explosive 112 off 51 balls against Sri Lanka in January, featuring nine sixes and seven fours, averaging almost a boundary every three deliveries. This outstanding effort stands as the second-fastest hundred for India in men’s T20Is, following Rohit Sharma’s 35-ball century against the same opponent in 2017, leading India to a convincing 91-run victory.

Suryakumar Yadav’s consistent and impactful performances have undoubtedly established him as a key player in the T20 format for India but the star player is currently undergoing rehab having underwent surgery.

Suryakumar Yadav, appointed as the captain for the T20 series in India’s South Africa tour, unfortunately faced a setback with a sports hernia, leading to his absence in subsequent T20 engagements, including the T20I series against Afghanistan. The talented batsman underwent a successful surgery in Munich, Germany, marking a crucial step in his recovery journey.

Post-surgery, Suryakumar Yadav is slated to commence the rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Although there’s no official announcement regarding the exact timeline for his return, reports suggest that he might achieve full fitness before the commencement of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Fans can look forward to witnessing Suryakumar in action during the IPL 2024 season, provided his recovery progresses as anticipated.

As India concludes its last T20 series against Afghanistan ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup in June 2024, the team is entering the tournament on a positive note, having secured a 3-0 victory in the series.

Given Suryakumar Yadav’s status as the world’s number one batsman in T20 International cricket, his fitness holds paramount importance, especially with significant events like IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup 2024 on the horizon.
