Hwang Jung Min Stalking Case: Court Delivers Guilty Verdict In First-Instance Trial, Agency Responds

A difficult chapter in actor Hwang Jung Min’s personal life has reached its first legal milestone. His agency, SEM Company, confirmed on September 8 that a South Korean court has ruled on the stalking case that emerged from private-life allegations circulated online earlier this year.

Hwang Jung Min: Case Summary

What Led to the Case

The case traces back to July, when allegations about Hwang Jung Min’s private life began spreading across online communities and social media. An individual identified only as “A” claimed to have screenshots of phone records and messenger conversations suggesting a romantic relationship with the actor. SEM Company had previously stated that this individual was, in fact, a suspect who had persistently stalked and harassed Hwang Jung Min.

The Court’s Ruling and Agency’s Response

In its September 8 statement, SEM Company confirmed the court found the defendant guilty on all counts, determining that her actions had seriously infringed upon the daily life of the actor. The agency expressed that it respects the court’s decision and views the ruling as confirmation that stalking cannot be justified under any circumstance. soompi

Notably, SEM Company did not indicate the matter is closed. The agency stated it plans further legal action against continued spreading of false information and the distribution of edited recordings connected to the trial, signaling that accountability efforts will continue beyond this first ruling.

Stalking remains a serious offense under South Korean law, governed by the Act on the Punishment of Crimes of Stalking, which was strengthened in recent years to address rising cases involving public figures and private citizens alike.
