That Pink Bag Holds the Key: Will Netflix Renew How to Get to Heaven From Belfast?

Just when you thought it was safe to close that final chapter, How to Get to Heaven From Belfast leaves viewers clutching the edge of their seats with a pink bag full of deadly secrets. The Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee has done it again—crafting a darkly comedic mystery that’s earned rave 4-star reviews and left fans desperately wanting more.

How to Get to Heaven From Belfast Season 2 Renewal Status: Overview

What the Creator Says

Lisa McGee isn’t keeping fans guessing about her intentions. Speaking to Deadline, she confirmed, “I’ve left it open for a second series, but it’s all completely down to how many people watch. I’d love to do one.”

This transparent approach shows McGee understands Netflix’s renewal formula: viewership numbers reign supreme. While Season 1 wraps up its central mystery beautifully, she’s deliberately planted seeds for continuation—most notably that mysterious pink bag connected to a murder.

Early Viewership Signals

The series launched with a soft start in Netflix’s daily top 10s, though performance varies by region. It rocketed to #1 in Ireland immediately and reached #3 in the UK, appearing in the top 10 across five other countries. These are promising signs, especially for a darkly comedic drama tackling themes of friendship, loss, and murder in contemporary Northern Ireland.

Official Netflix viewing figures arrive February 17th, which will largely determine the show’s fate. The streaming giant typically needs sustained engagement beyond opening week to justify renewals.

Season 2 Setup: Spoiler Territory Ahead

Season 1 concludes with Greta alive and well, having “disappeared” through a shadowy organization called The Evaporation Society that helps endangered women vanish. But the finale’s real hook? That pink bag originally belonging to Conrad—who ends up murdered with a screwdriver through his neck.

When Saoirse, Robyn, and Dara unzip the bag, their horrified reactions tell us everything: whatever’s inside is dangerous enough to kill for. Robyn’s final declaration—”We are not, under any circumstances, getting involved in this”—practically guarantees they’ll be neck-deep in chaos if Season 2 happens.

Additionally, the violent takeover of The Evaporation Society by Booker and Feeney, who ominously note they’ll need “new soldiers,” suggests our trio might be recruited into something far bigger than solving their friend’s fake death.

The Renewal Verdict

McGee has crafted a perfect cliffhanger that works both ways: satisfying as a limited series conclusion yet tantalizing enough to justify continuation. With critical acclaim secured and creator enthusiasm confirmed, Season 2’s fate rests entirely on viewer engagement.

If you haven’t watched yet, now’s the time—every view counts toward potentially unlocking that pink bag’s secrets.
