How Much Does It Consume to Beat Hell is Us? Complete Playtime Guide

Hell is Us delivers a uniquely challenging action-adventure experience that refuses to hold your hand. With no quest markers, objective notifications, or traditional guidance systems, players must rely on exploration, observation, and puzzle-solving skills to progress. But exactly how much time should you budget for this enigmatic journey through a war-torn landscape?

The answer varies significantly based on your playstyle, but most players can expect a substantial commitment ranging from 15 to 60+ hours depending on their completion goals.

Hell is Us Completion Times Overview

Different approaches to Hell is Us yield dramatically different playtimes. The game’s philosophy of “quality over quantity” means no artificial padding or grinding, but the cryptic design can extend play sessions considerably.

Main Story Completion Time

Standard Playthrough (25-30 Hours)

On average, it can take around 20 hours to finish the main story in Hell is Us, though most players naturally extend this to 25-30 hours due to the game’s exploratory nature. The lack of traditional quest markers means you’ll organically discover side content while searching for story progression clues.

Speedrun Potential (15-20 Hours)

Experienced players familiar with puzzle solutions and story beats can complete Hell is Us in 12-20 hours, with some managing the campaign in as little as 15 hours with prior knowledge. However, this approach sacrifices the intended discovery-based experience.

What Extends Playtime in Hell is Us

No Hand-Holding Design Philosophy

Hell is Us truly defines the action-adventure genre with its unique approach to player guidance. The game never tells you what to do next, what to obtain, or who to talk to. You must look for clues, travel to various areas, and talk to NPCs to discover your next move.

This design philosophy naturally extends playtime as players:

• Explore every location thoroughly for story clues
• Engage in conversations with all NPCs for information
• Decipher environmental storytelling elements
• Solve complex puzzles without external hints

Rich Side Content Integration

The game doesn’t provide any map indicators or objective notifications to tell you what to do next for main story progression, so you’re never fully sure if whatever you’re pursuing is mandatory or optional. This seamless integration means side activities feel naturally woven into the main experience.

100% Completion Requirements

Platinum Trophy Journey (60+ Hours)

Achieving full completion in Hell is Us requires substantial dedication. There are many side activities you must complete, such as completing Good Deeds, talking to all NPCs, acquiring various items, defeating enemies, and much more.

Key completion requirements include:

• All Good Deeds completed across every location
• Complete NPC conversation logs
• Full collectible acquisition (notes, recordings, items)
• Combat achievement unlocks
• Environmental puzzle solutions

Post-Game Content Access

The developers at Rogue Factor have included an excellent feature that lets you engage in side activities even after finishing the main story. As the game doesn’t boast a New Game+ mode, you can effectively load the previous save file to finish the remaining quests at your own pace.

This system allows completionist players to:

• Return to any missed content without replay pressure
• Use the APC for efficient location traversal
• Access all previously collected clues and items
• Complete achievements at a comfortable pace
