In its entirety, the series is just an unnecessary addition to countless shows available on OTT, which highlight the volatile relations between two warring neighboring countries. While we aren’t contesting the makers’ ability and intent to type a show, the question here is, do they have everything new to offer?
The beats are familiar. The bad guys from crosswise the border are sprouting inflammatory lines in chaste Urdu counter to India. A weapon that can be more fatal than an atomic bomb is designed. The intelligence agencies will wait for one man to take care and save the day for everyone. It’s a done-and-dusted narrative.
Commando 3, the last installment of the stage franchise, was released in 2019, a little before the pandemic hit us. Since then, many expressions and movies have cashed in on extreme pro-independence sentiments and delivered mere jingoism in the semblance of patriotism. Sadly, Commando isn’t an exception to that either. Obviousness is a crucial factor that hugely works against the series. It also doesn’t help that Parrijaa, as Virat, doesn’t register a similar impact to the appeal compared to Jammwal.
Adah Sharma reprises her role as senior inspector Bhavna Reddy but doesn’t get a chance to showcase everything new either. It’s particularly disappointing to watch good actors like Amit Sial, in addition to Vaibhav Tatwawadi, needing to be more utilized and saddled through weakly-written parts.
The Plot
The 2013 smash hit flick Commando told the story of an Indian commando who, while escaping Chinese authorities, single-handedly assists a woman in fleeing an infamous gang.
