Hogwarts Legacy might be possibly delayed until 2023

Hogwarts Legacy, Warner Bros.’ planned Harry Potter-themed RPG, is reportedly having development issues and may not release this year. Colin Moriarty, a former IGN editor, and occasional leaker revealed as much on his most recent Sacred Symbols+ show (as transcribed by VGC).

When his co-host questioned about the game, Moriarty stated, “I’m hearing behind the scenes that it’s not coming out this year and that it’s in some type of danger.”

No additional information was provided, but this information contradicts what VGC freelance journalist Tom Henderson said last week in a video about the rumored PlayStation State of Play. Henderson said the game appears to be ready to be shown, and could very well be featured during Sony’s rumored event next month.

“I guess the big thing that people were hung on is the fact that I said that it has the potential to be a pretty big State of Play, and the reason for that is because it seems like Warner Bros. is now ready to reveal more on Hogwarts Legacy which is expected to release [in] Q3 to Q4 [of] 2022”,  the leaker said last week.

He added, “apparently, things are just ready to go, now they’re just itching to get it out the gate so that leaves me to believe that there is the potential for this State of Play to be a pretty big one compared to ones that we’ve had in the past.”

Hogwarts Legacy was first scheduled for a release in 2021 but was then delayed into this year.

Experience Hogwarts in the nineteenth century. Your character is a student who owns the key to an ancient mystery that threatens to destroy the wizarding world. You’ve been accepted late to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and you quickly learn that you’re not like other students: you have a unique capacity to recognize and master Ancient Magic. Only you can decide whether you’ll keep this secret for the greater good or succumb to the lure of more nefarious magic. As you develop allies, battle Dark wizards, and eventually decide the fate of the wizarding world, experience what it’s like to live at Hogwarts. Your legacy is entirely up to you.

Later this year, Hogwarts Legacy will be released for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. Beyond 2022, no formal release date has been set for the game.
