After rebranding the website and social media accounts, from Nokia to HMD, which seemed to suggest that nostalgic Nokia phones would be discontinued a recent report contradicts this notion. Reveals that the company actually plans to continue launching phones under the ‘Nokia’ name. Additionally, there are expectations of introducing phones with HMD branding well.

Upcoming Phones from HMD

According to a report by 91Mobiles Hindi HMD is preparing to unveil three phones under their brand name. One of these models will be priced affordably between ₹10,000 and ₹15,000. Notably there are no intentions of releasing any phones exceeding ₹40,000 in India this year; in fact, the expensive model will be priced below ₹40,000.

The report suggests that HMD Global holds the Nokia license until 2026. As per the information received the company plans to release phones under both the Nokia and HMD names while making them available at retail outlets.

In terms of availability Nokia phones scheduled for 2024 will exclusively be sold offline whereas HMD brand phones are expected to debut and in retail stores. This dual approach is likely to influence pricing strategies, for both HMD and Nokia phones with an aim to position HMD brand smartphones as offering value for money.

In the meantime, it’s possible that Nokia phones sold in stores could be priced higher. Additionally, the report mentions that HMD Global plans to launch HMD service centers at the time, of the phone release. This suggests a move to offer support, for their products.

Recently, HMD Global underwent a significant shift by renaming Nokia’s social handles and website to Human Mobile Devices (HMD). A teaser video was released, affirming the brand’s commitment to catering to a diverse market audience. The video provided a glimpse of upcoming products, including smartphones, tablets, wireless earbuds, and more.

The brand’s website explicitly outlined its past intention to launch smartphones with attributes such as being fun, secure, fast, and affordable. Emphasizing its global outreach, the brand claimed a presence in over 200 countries and boasted a user base exceeding 400 million Nokia users since the takeover in 2016.
