Hijack Season 2 Ending Explained: Stuart’s Three-Layer Deception, Kai’s Truth & Does Sam Go to Prison?

Idris Elba is back on a vehicle he has no business being on — and Hijack Season 2 just delivered its most elaborate twist yet. The Season 2 finale, “Terminal”, wraps up the Berlin U-Bahn hostage crisis with a triple-layered deception that fooled everyone — including Sam Nelson himself.

Hijack Season 2 — Key Facts

Who Was Really Behind the Hijack?

This is where the season earns every twist. The show fooled us three times over.

First, it appeared Sam was the hijacker. Then we learned he was being coerced — forced to take over the train under threat of his ex-wife Marsha’s death. But the finale delivers the real truth: the entire operation was orchestrated by Stuart, operating from prison, to kill Bailey-Brown and become the head of the criminal organization — a meticulously crafted plan aimed at both seeking revenge on Sam and clearing the path to leadership by eliminating John Bailey-Brown. Stuart Atterton gave Robert Lang the responsibility and the plan to carry out the hijacking in Berlin, and the corrupt MI5 agent got in touch with others and assigned them their personal duties. Lang and his team were all ex-military mercenaries, motivated purely by money — making them ruthlessly efficient and completely expendable to Stuart’s plan.

The Shocking Truth About Kai’s Death

The scene where Sam confronts Bailey-Brown is the emotional gut-punch of the entire season. Bailey-Brown laughs at the accusation, revealing that he didn’t kill Sam’s son — instead, it was a lie told by Lang to get Sam to do their bidding and hijack the train.

Stuart ordered Kai to be killed probably with Lang’s help — it was a hit-and-run “accident,” but clearly orchestrated by shadowy forces — and then used Sam’s grief to manipulate him. DM Talkies This is grief manipulation at its most calculated — and it makes Stuart one of TV’s most cold-blooded villains of 2026.

What Happens at the End — Train, Explosion & Sam’s Fate

Lang gets off the train and, once at a safe distance, detonates the explosive. Though Bailey-Brown was still on the train and dies in the explosion, both Otto and Sam survive. Lang, however, thinks they’re all dead.

Meanwhile, Marsha sneaks back to the cabin and creates a large controlled fire outdoors to get the attention of the rescue helicopter — though it also attracts the two assailants hired to capture her. But before they can get to Marsha, the helicopter arrives in the nick of time. The hired hands surrender, and Marsha escapes alive.

As for Sam — despite being framed for the entire hijacking, evidence ultimately clears his name, though the finale leaves his precise legal fate deliberately ambiguous.

Will There Be a Hijack Season 3?

At this time, Hijack hasn’t been renewed for Season 3, nor has it been cancelled. Showrunner Jim Field Smith teased: “If we do bring him back, I’m sure we’ll find some way to put him through hell again.” Fangirlish A bus? A speedboat?
