Ha Jung Woo May Join Solo Leveling as Its Most Dangerous Villain Yet

The “Solo Leveling” live-action cast just got a lot more interesting. Reports suggest veteran actor Ha Jung Woo could be stepping into the Netflix adaptation as one of the story’s most formidable antagonists — though officially, nothing’s confirmed just yet.

What’s Being Reported?

According to SPOTV News, Ha Jung Woo has been offered a special appearance as Hwang Dong Soo, an S-rank Hunter and one of the major villains who clashes with protagonist Sung Jin Woo in the original story. His agency, WALKHOUSECOMPANY, kept things characteristically brief, simply stating that “nothing has been confirmed” — standard industry language during active negotiations rather than a denial.

There’s an interesting behind-the-scenes connection here too: Ha Jung Woo has already worked with “Solo Leveling” co-directors Lee Hae Jun and Kim Byung Seo before, on the 2019 disaster film “Ashfall.” That prior collaboration could be exactly what’s fueling this casting conversation.

What Solo Leveling Is About?

For anyone new to the franchise, “Solo Leveling” began as a web novel before becoming a hit webtoon and animated series. It follows Sung Jin Woo, the weakest-ranked Hunter tasked with protecting the world from monsters emerging through mysterious Gates. After a near-fatal encounter, he gains extraordinary powers and gradually becomes humanity’s last real hope.

Solo Leveling: The Cast Coming Together

The series has been filming since May, though Netflix hasn’t announced a premiere date yet. Meanwhile, Ha Jung Woo is also currently busy filming “Inside Men: The Birth of the Villains.”

Why This Matters?

Live-action adaptations of hit webtoons have become a major trend in the Korean entertainment industry, following the global success of similar projects. This mirrors the broader boom in webtoon adaptations reshaping how Korean stories reach international streaming audiences, turning digital comics into some of Netflix’s biggest global hits.

With a cast this stacked, “Solo Leveling” is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated K-drama adaptations in recent memory.
