The Xdinary Heroes departure saga just took a sharp turn. A week after JYP Entertainment announced Gun-il’s exit from the group, his legal team has stepped in with a statement that directly contradicts the agency’s version of events.
What’s Actually Being Disputed in Gun-il?
| Point | JYP’s Position | Gun-il’s Legal Team |
|---|---|---|
| Nature of exit | Announced as withdrawal from group | Says it was not voluntary |
| Contract status | Announced as terminated | Says he never agreed to terminate it |
| Trigger | Followed public allegations | Same allegations cited, disputed handling |
On August 20, attorney Sung Jae Hwan of Joowon Law Firm posted an official statement on Instagram on Gun-il’s behalf, stating plainly that the artist neither left of his own will nor consented to ending his exclusive contract. That’s a direct challenge to how JYP framed the situation just days earlier.
How This Started
The controversy traces back to claims from a person identified only as “A,” who said she had previously dated Gun-il. She alleged he made a series of inappropriate comments, including cursing directed at fans. The backlash moved fast — by August 13, JYP had already released a statement confirming Gun-il’s withdrawal from Xdinary Heroes and the termination of his contract.
Now, with his lawyer publicly disputing both the “withdrawal” and “termination” framing, the situation looks headed toward further clarification — or possibly a legal dispute between Gun-il and the agency.
What Happens Next
Neither side has laid out next steps publicly beyond these dueling statements. Fans and industry watchers will likely be looking for JYP’s response, and whether this escalates into a formal contract dispute.
