Guillaume Canet Is Back: Netflix’s Ad Vitam Sequel Officially Starts Filming

If you binged “Ad Vitam” and were left wanting more Franck Lazareff, good news — the cameras are rolling again. Netflix has confirmed principal photography has begun on the sequel, working titled “Ad Vitam Eternam,” with Guillaume Canet reprising his lead role.

Why Fans Are Excited

The original “Ad Vitam” quietly became one of Netflix’s biggest non-English hits, and this follow-up picks up right where the tension left off.

The first film followed Franck, an ex-elite agent unraveling a deadly conspiracy after his pregnant wife’s kidnapping. It ended with Franck walking free from jail after his wife cleared his name with new evidence. The sequel picks up directly from that cliffhanger, promising to dig deeper into the fallout and the people behind the original plot.

Ad Vitam Eternam- Overview

A Sequel Backed By Real Numbers

This isn’t a random greenlight. When Ad Vitam premiered in January 2025, it broke into Netflix’s global top ten for non-English language films almost immediately, racking up an impressive 54 million views within its first month. For a French-language action thriller, that’s a serious achievement — and clearly enough to convince Netflix a sequel was worth fast-tracking.

Canet isn’t just returning to act, either. He’s producing again through Cabanes Productions, the company he runs alongside Jean Cottin, keeping creative control tightly in-house for the follow-up.

Where It’s Being Filmed

Unlike the first film, which was shot primarily around Paris and Versailles, “Ad Vitam Eternam” is expanding its footprint significantly. Production will span Île-de-France, Normandy, Savoie, and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region — suggesting a bigger, more geographically ambitious story than its predecessor.

What This Means For Netflix’s Global Strategy

Sequels to successful non-English titles are becoming a bigger part of Netflix’s playbook, proving that language isn’t a barrier when the story and execution land right. “Ad Vitam Eternam” is shaping up to be another example of that strategy paying off.
