GTA Online will get a story-focused expansion called ‘The Contract,’ which will feature GTA V character Franklin and take place years after the events of the game’s single-player campaign. Franklin will work in his new “celebrity solutions agency” in the game, which will be released on December 15, and will feature Dr. Dre, who has composed new music for the game.
The expansion (which, like all GTA Online updates, will be free) introduces F. Clinton and Partner, an agency that offers solutions to the problems of Los Santos’ elite, according to the Rockstar Newswire. Through Lamar Davis, your GTA Online character will meet Franklin and be tasked with taking the company to the next level.
GTA 5 radio host (and GTA Online co-writer) DJ Pooh will contact Franklin as part of the tale to mention a potential customer – Dr. Dre. Dr. Dre has misplaced his phone, which contains unreleased new music. You’ll be in charge of securing the tracks and returning them to the famed artist – and you can do it alone or with a crew.
You’ll be working with Franklin himself, Chop the Dog, and a hacker named Imani to retrieve the tracks from Franklin’s former neighborhood, Los Santos parties, and FIB offices, according to Rockstar. As you can see from the teaser above, we’ll be meeting other notable musicians as well, with Anderson. Paak making an appearance, and a cameo from Snoop Dogg is on the soundtrack hinting at another cameo.
Those songs will, as you might expect, be included in the game, and Rockstar is promising a lot more music in the update. “An eclectic new radio station with some very special guest hosts, huge first-of-their-kind updates to existing radio stations, including a tonne of new and unreleased exclusive tracks from Dr. Dre and a heavy-hitting line-up of artists,” according to today’s announcement.
New weapons, vehicles, hit contracts, and other features will be included in the update. “In the coming days,” Rockstar says, we’ll learn more about the music and the expansion as a whole.
This update appears to be in response to the many, many years of calls for story DLC in Grand Theft Auto 5. However, it’s still unknown how the expansion will be integrated into the core of GTA Online.
This confirms that Dr. Dre was working on new music for GTA Online rather than GTA 6, as some had hoped. We’ve heard very nothing about GTA 6 aside from the fact that it’s under development, though some believe Rockstar slipped a screenshot of it into the GTA Trilogy remaster of San Andreas.
