GTA 6 Is Truly a Global Game — And India Might Be Its Biggest Builder

When we think of GTA, we picture Rockstar North in Scotland. But the reality behind GTA 6’s development is far more global — and India’s contribution might genuinely surprise you.

Based on public workforce estimates making rounds online, Rockstar India could be the single largest studio contributor to GTA 6, with approximately 1,615 developers reportedly working on the game — more than even the iconic Rockstar North.

GTA 6 Developer Count by Country (Estimated)

India’s Quiet but Massive Role

India’s Rockstar studio — with an estimated 1,615 developers — is reportedly spearheading significant portions of map design and Vice Beach, the sun-soaked Miami-inspired setting at GTA 6’s heart. That’s not a support role. That’s centre stage.

It’s a reflection of India’s growing stature in AAA game development — a talent pool that the global industry can no longer overlook.

Scotland Still Holds the Soul

While India may lead in headcount, Rockstar North in Edinburgh remains the creative heartbeat of the GTA franchise. The studio that birthed GTA III, Vice City, and GTA V still serves as the franchise’s spiritual and directorial home, with around 1,398 developers keeping that legacy alive.

According to Wikipedia’s profile of Rockstar North, the studio has been the primary developer of the mainline GTA series since 2001 — a legacy that no workforce number can diminish.

A Truly Global Masterpiece

The US brings creative leadership, England drives gameplay and audio innovation, and Canada quietly handles engineering systems. Together, nearly 6,000 developers across 5 countries are collaborating to deliver what could be the most expensive and ambitious game ever made.
