Early Look at Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro: Unboxing Videos and Performance Insights

The Pixel 8 launch event is just around the corner, but someone has already managed to obtain Google’s upcoming smartphones. In a pair of unboxing videos shared on YouTube by PBKreviews, fans can catch a glimpse of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro packaging, as well as their appearance.

All About the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro Leaks and Rumors

While these videos don’t provide significant new insights compared to the multitude of leaks leading up to the event, they do reveal that both phones come neatly packaged with a USB-C cable, a manual, and a Quick Switch adapter for transferring data from your old device to the Google Pixel 8.

Additionally, viewers get a good look at various color options for the new devices. The Google Pixel 8 unboxing video showcases a shiny gray color with a silver camera bar, while the Pixel 8 Pro video highlights a matte black backing with a sleek black camera bar, aligning with previously leaked color choices.

PBKReviews also reveal the lock screen on both devices, indicating that they will likely feature the same in-display fingerprint sensor as their predecessors. Given Google‘s history of leaks, an unboxing video ahead of the Pixel 8 launch isn’t particularly surprising, as there have already been numerous Pixel 8 leaks, some of which may have originated from Google itself.

According to rumors, the Google Pixel 8 Pro, with its 6.7-inch display, is expected to feature an upgraded camera system, including a 50MP wide lens, a 48MP ultrawide lens with Macro Focus, and a 48MP camera with a 5x telephoto lens, as well as a body temperature sensor. The 6.17-inch Google Pixel 8 may feature a dual-camera setup with a 50MP wide lens and a 12MP ultrawide lens with Macro Focus. Both phones are likely to incorporate AI-enhanced features.

In addition to the Pixel 8 lineup, Google is also set to unveil the Pixel Watch 2 at its Made by Google event, scheduled for October 4th at 10 AM ET. On another note, Google plans to launch the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Watch 2 on October 4th. These two smartphones will represent the company’s latest premium offerings and will be powered by the third-gen Tensor chipset.

However, leaked benchmarks suggest that the Tensor G3 may not deliver the performance that matches the competition. The leaked image indicates a single-core score of 1,760 and a multi-core score of 4,442 on Geekbench 6.2 for the Google Pixel 8 Pro. While not terrible, these scores fall behind other flagship chipsets like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Nevertheless, the Google Pixel 8 Pro offers around a 20% CPU performance improvement over the Pixel 7 Pro, which might be more crucial for its fans.
