What the Initiative Delivers

The grant aims to strengthen existing public infrastructure tools and platforms to deliver high-quality learning experiences from early childhood through higher education. Voice-AI technology will help students build oral reading fluency across 10 Indian languages.

“We have tools like the POSHAN Tracker, SWAYAM, and more, and the aim is to strengthen these existing public infrastructure tools and platforms,” explains Preeti Lobana, Vice-President and Country Manager at Google India.

New Features Launched:

Google unveiled a new Gemini feature developed with edtech startup PhysicsWallah and Careers360 that allows students to take JEE Mains mock tests directly within the platform.

India’s First AI-Enabled University

Google announced collaboration with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) in Meerut to establish India’s first AI-enabled university.

Using Google Cloud and Gemini, CCSU aims to transform teaching methods and operations across three areas:

For Students: Access to personalized AI tutors and skill gap analysis to align learning with workforce needs

For Educators: AI-assisted design of teaching content and multilingual educational aids

For Administrators: Intelligent automation to streamline workflows and operations

India’s AI Learning Leadership

India is home to one of the world’s largest communities of AI-powered learners, with the country recording the highest usage of Gemini for learning globally.

A Google survey revealed impressive results: 95% of students with platform access felt more confident, with AI assisting them in tasks like preparing for job interviews and building academic plans.

This confidence boost demonstrates practical impact beyond theoretical learning—students are using AI tools to solve real career and education challenges.

Scaling Public Education Infrastructure

Rather than building entirely new systems, Google’s strategy focuses on enhancing existing government platforms. The POSHAN Tracker supports nutrition monitoring, while SWAYAM provides online courses from schools and higher education institutions.

By integrating AI capabilities into these established platforms, the initiative reaches millions without requiring users to adopt new tools or interfaces. This approach ensures accessibility across diverse regions and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Timeline and Expansion

The initiative has already reached 10 million students and educators, with aggressive expansion planned to hit 75 million student beneficiaries within the next two years. The voice-AI component addressing oral reading fluency in multiple languages tackles a critical challenge in India’s multilingual education landscape.

The collaboration between Google, government ministries, educational institutions, and nonprofits creates an ecosystem approach—combining technology, policy support, and ground-level implementation for sustainable impact.
