Nayyi Navelli Box Office: A Scary Good Idea, but a 65% Weekend Drop Turned Yami Gautam’s Horror Comedy into a Flop

Some films arrive with a spooky hook and a funny twist, then lose the audience anyway. That’s the story of Nayyi Navelli, which fell sharply in its second weekend.

Nayyi Navelli: The Numbers in a Nutshell

According to trade estimates, the film added around Rs 2 to 2.25 crore in its second weekend. That’s a 65% drop from an opening weekend that was itself disappointing. Its India net total now stands at about Rs 22.50 crore.

The Verdict: A Flop

Trade reports call the film a flop. At the current pace, it is heading for a lifetime total of around Rs 30 crore, which is a letdown for a film of this scale.

There is one small silver lining. It is doing better than Yami Gautam’s previous release, Haq, which ended its theatrical run at about Rs 23 crore.

Why Didn’t It Click?

The biggest culprit appears to be word of mouth. Directed by Balaji Mohan, the film got a mixed response from audiences. When viewers don’t recommend a film, second-weekend collections tend to collapse, and that’s exactly what happened here. A warmer reception could have given it far better legs.

What Is Nayyi Navelli About?

Set in Meerut, the story follows a troubled household whose luck turns after a mysterious new bride arrives. Her seemingly miraculous abilities bring peace and prosperity to the family. But as things get stranger, suspicion grows. Some believe she has supernatural powers, while others wonder if she’s a witch.

The cast includes Yami Gautam Dhar, Adinath Kothare, Mita Vashisht, Sonal Jha, Sunita Rajwar, Rajesh Dubey, Aaditya Kulshreshth and Prateek Pachauri.

A fresh premise gets people to the theatre, but only good word of mouth keeps them coming. With a total of around Rs 30 crore likely, Nayyi Navelli looks set to finish as a missed opportunity.
