Golmaal 5: Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty Reunite for Comedy Franchise’s Biggest Installment

The wait is finally over for Golmaal fans. Bollywood’s most beloved comedy franchise is making its triumphant return with Golmaal 5, as the dynamic duo of director Rohit Shetty and actor Ajay Devgn reunite for what promises to be India’s most anticipated comedy of 2027. Industry sources have confirmed that filming will commence at the end of February 2026, with a marathon shooting schedule planned to run through July, ensuring the film hits theaters in the first half of 2027.

This marks the first Golmaal installment in seven years since Golmaal Again graced the big screen in 2017, and the reunion couldn’t come at a better time. Both Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn have expressed tremendous confidence in the project, with sources revealing that they believe the script for Golmaal 5 is funnier than all four previous films combined. The franchise has consistently proven itself as one of Indian cinema’s greatest money-spinners, and this fifth installment is poised to continue that legacy.

The Timeline: From Biopic to Comedy

Rohit Shetty is currently occupied with completing the Rakesh Maria biopic featuring John Abraham, a project that will wrap up by the end of January 2026. Immediately following this, the filmmaker will transition into pre-production work for Golmaal 5. The strategic scheduling ensures that Shetty can dedicate his full attention and creative energy to this monumental project.

The production timeline has been meticulously planned. Post-production processes, including editing, sound design, color grading, and visual effects, will commence during the shooting period and continue through August and September 2026. This staggered approach ensures the film is production-ready for a scheduled first-half 2027 theatrical release, allowing ample time for marketing and promotional activities before hitting cinema screens.

The Script: Evolution of a Beloved Franchise

Sources close to the production have revealed that a fresh team of writers is working on the screenplay for Golmaal 5, promising to deliver something unexpectedly new while retaining the comic essence that made the franchise a household phenomenon. The script reportedly explores an idea that has never been attempted before in the Golmaal universe, suggesting significant creative evolution without abandoning the franchise’s core DNA.

One of the most exciting revelations is that Golmaal 5 may feature the franchise’s first-ever female villain, a strategic move that promises to add fresh dynamics to the comedy’s narrative structure. This creative choice signals Shetty’s commitment to evolving the franchise while maintaining the beloved elements audiences have cherished for two decades.

Production and Creative Details

The collaboration between Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty represents one of Bollywood’s most prolific and successful partnerships. This Golmaal 5 project marks their 14th film together, following blockbusters including Singham, Bol Bachchan, Khakee, and multiple entries in both the Golmaal and Singham franchises. Their proven chemistry and understanding of each other’s creative sensibilities continue to serve as the foundation for the franchise’s enduring appeal.

The Ensemble Returns: The OG Gang Reunites

One of the most exciting confirmations is that the entire original gang is reuniting for the fifth time. The core cast, including Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Kemmu, Shreyas Talpade, and Johnny Lever, will all reprise their roles, bringing continuity and nostalgia that fans have been craving. The chemistry among these actors, honed over nearly two decades of working together, remains one of the franchise’s greatest strengths.

The Franchise Legacy: Two Decades of Laughter

The Golmaal franchise has achieved remarkable consistency as a theatrical money-spinner. The first film, Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, released in 2006 and introduced audiences to a group of childhood friends caught in increasingly ridiculous situations. Golmaal Returns followed in 2008, Golmaal 3 in 2010, and Golmaal Again in 2017. Each installment has delivered significant box office success, proving the franchise’s universal appeal across diverse age groups and demographics.

The premise—revolving around elaborate pranks, mistaken identities, and chaotic encounters leading to slapstick comedy—has proven timeless. However, the franchise has also evolved thematically, addressing contemporary social issues while maintaining its lighthearted entertainment value. Golmaal 5 promises to continue this tradition of combining comedic escapism with subtle social commentary.

The Creative Confidence

Both Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn have publicly expressed supreme confidence in this project. Following the massive success of Singham Again, which dominated the box office and proved their continued ability to deliver blockbuster entertainment, the duo is entering Golmaal 5 with tremendous positive energy. Industry insiders report that Shetty described wanting to return to the “light and cheerful” world of Golmaal before diving into another cop-action universe project, signaling his genuine enthusiasm for this comedy venture.

The madness quotient this time around is expected to be at another level altogether, suggesting that Golmaal 5 will push comedic boundaries while maintaining the franchise’s signature warmth and heart. The combination of new creative ideas with the familiar comfort of beloved characters and actors positions the film as one of 2027’s most anticipated releases across all genres.
