The new trailer of much-awaited Alia Bhatt’s film Gangubai Kathiawadi has been released. Alia Bhatt returned as a once vulnerable lady forced into the sex trade who had risen eventually on the circumstances and also shines like the matriarch of Kamathipura in the 1960s. This film has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Gangubai Kathiawadi: Plot
It seems that the new trailer just introduces Alia as a dominating figure who also has turned into pride, and targets political aspirants for the development of the red light area of Mumbai. The story also follows the life of young Ganga, who had run away from her small town of Kathiawadi to fulfil her dream to become a film star, but she was betrayed by her lover and sells her to a brothel in the red-light district of Mumbai.
After that, she automatically transforms into Gangubai who is the matriarch of the district. She just become the voice of suppressed and making it her mission of trying and legitimizing a tainted profession that dates back to that old times. We will see Vijay Raaz play as a trans woman, Raziya Bai who is also not mood to let go of the dominance over Kamathipura. Ajay Devgn making a strong cameo in the trailer playing the role of an underworld gangster Karim Lala. In the trailer, we will also see Seema Pahwa and Jim Sarbh.
It is reported that this period drama has been adapted from one of the chapters of the noted author Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
The director Bhansali told, “ Gangubai Kathiawadi is the story of a woman’s battle against the injustices imposed on sex workers. It gave me immense pride that my team and I have portrayed Gangubai’s relentless pursuit for women’s empowerment through this film”

Gangubai Kathiawadi: Production Status
It is reported that the filming began in December 2019 and wrapped in two years. Alai Bhatt had been shared her experiences of the shooting of the film in a lengthy note on Instagram. She had written, ” The film and set have been through two lockdowns…two cyclones.. director and actor getting Covid during the making!!! The troubles the set has face3d is another film altogether! But through all that and more.. what I take away is the gigantic life-changing experience!”
She also added ” Being directed by sir has been a dream all my life, but I don’t think anything would have prepared me for the journey I was on for these two years..I walk out of this set a diff person today! I love you, sir! Hank you for being you..There is truly NO ONE like you. When a film ends a part of you ends with it! Today I’ve lost a part of me.. Gangu I love you! You will be missed. Gangubai Kathiawadi: Release Date
This film will release in the theatres on 25th February 2022. It will also release on PVR, INOX, Cinepolis, Carnival, and Miraj. It is expected to get a huge response from the audience.
