Pickleball just entered its high-tech era. Stupa Sports, an Indian-born AI innovation company, has officially touched down in the UK — bringing its AI-powered Decision Review System (DRS) to the English OPEN in Birmingham. And within hours of launch, the tech was already proving its worth.

What Happened on Day One?

The AI-DRS faced its first real test during the Women’s Doubles 50+ Senior OPEN, featuring Kirsty Gray and Marcia Audibert against Nicole Peters and Elisa Lapia. A disputed serve from Audibert to Lapia triggered an instant challenge — and instead of a heated back-and-forth, the system delivered an automated, definitive line call in seconds. No arguments, no delays, just data-backed clarity. You can watch that exact moment unfold in the live review clip, courtesy of Pickleball England.

Why This Debut Matters

This isn’t just a tech demo — it’s a milestone. It marks the first time Indian-developed AI officiating technology is powering the world’s largest indoor Pickleball tournament, under a three-year partnership between Stupa Sports and Pickleball England.

What the AI-DRS Actually Brings to the Court

The system isn’t just about eliminating disputes — it’s reshaping how the sport is officiated and broadcast. Here’s what fans and players can expect:

Total Accuracy: AI-driven VAR resolves line and serve calls without human guesswork, even on razor-thin kitchen dinks and baseline drives.
Pro-Level Officiating: Referees get real-time backup, boosting confidence during high-pressure rallies and reducing controversial foot-fault calls.
Elite Broadcasting: Live player stats and dynamic graphics elevate the viewing experience for a global audience tuning in.
