Console players can finally prepare for the frozen wasteland! 11 Bit Studios has officially announced that Frostpunk 2 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on September 18, 2025, bringing the critically acclaimed city-builder to console audiences nearly a year after its PC debut.

Accidental Early Reveal

The announcement came through a somewhat chaotic reveal process. The official trailer was initially published early and quickly set to private on YouTube, though eagle-eyed fans managed to capture and redistribute it before the takedown.

Enhanced Console Experience

Console players will benefit from full controller support that’s also coming to PC alongside the September launch. The game will be immediately available on Xbox Game Pass for console, matching its current PC Game Pass availability.

This represents a significant expansion for the post-apocalyptic survival city-builder, which launched exclusively on PC in September 2024 to widespread critical acclaim.

Expanding Content Roadmap

The console launch coincides with an active content expansion plan. Two additional DLC expansions are scheduled before year-end, following the previously revealed roadmap, with a third unnamed expansion planned for 2026.

This aggressive content strategy ensures console players will have substantial additional content shortly after diving into the base experience.

Critical Success Foundation

Frostpunk 2 earned strong reviews at PC launch, with our own Chris Wray praising it as “an excellent looking, excellent sounding, and great playing organic growth and succession from the original.” The review highlighted improved accessibility while maintaining the challenging core that made the original beloved.

The game successfully expanded the franchise’s scope, introducing political systems, faction management, and multi-area building that add layers of complexity beyond resource management.

Perfect Timing for Console Debut

September 18 positions Frostpunk 2 strategically ahead of the holiday gaming season, giving console players months to master the harsh survival mechanics before winter content arrives.

For survival strategy enthusiasts, this represents one of the year’s most anticipated console releases. Stay updated with more gaming news at TechnoSports, and check the official Frostpunk website for development updates.
