From Season 4 Review as Web Series: Is TV’s Best-Kept Horror Secret

If you are a fan of claustrophobic sci-fi horror, MGM+’s From has evolved into one of the most brilliant, slow-burn psychological thrillers on television. Created by John Griffin and executive produced by the team behind LOST, the series operates on a beautifully simple, terrifying hook: a mysterious nightmare town traps anyone who enters, and when the sun goes down, smiling, skin-crawling monsters emerge from the woods to hunt.

However, as the series progresses through its massive third and fourth seasons, it becomes clear that the physical monsters are merely the tip of the iceberg. From succeeds because it shifts the stakes from simple survival to a profound exploration of trauma, sanity, and human resilience.

The Critical Verdict: A Masterclass in Tension

Critics and fans globally praise From for its unique ability to ground high-concept cosmic horror in visceral, character-driven emotion.

• The Performances: Harold Perrineau delivers a career-defining performance as Sheriff Boyd Stevens. His portrayal of a leader physically and mentally fracturing under the weight of the town’s shifting rules is mesmerizing.
• The Horror Shift: While the early seasons relied on gruesome, B-movie practical gore, the later chapters lean heavily into relentless psychological torture. The entities stop just trying to kill the residents—they actively try to break their spirits.
• The “Lost” Trap: The primary criticism leveled against the show is its pacing. From loves to pile new mysteries, ancient symbols, and cryptic subplots on top of old ones before giving viewers concrete answers. For some, this structural stalling is frustrating; for others, it makes the show infinitely watchable and a hotbed for internet theories.
