From Best Friends to Bitter Rivals: Tazza 4 Cast Opens Up About Betrayal, Ambition, and Reviving a 20-Year Franchise

Twenty years after Korea fell in love with high-stakes gambling drama, the Tazza franchise is dealing its next hand. Byun Yo Han, Roh Jae Won, and Ayaka Miyoshi sat down with Harper’s BAZAAR Korea to talk about “Tazza 4: The Song of Beelzebub,” and the conversation reveals just how personal this new chapter feels for its cast.

Arriving six years after the last installment, the film follows Jang Tae Young (Byun Yo Han), who built a thriving online casino empire only to have it stripped away by his best friend, Park Tae Young (Roh Jae Won). When fate throws the former friends back together in the world of global gambling, their reunion turns into a high-stakes game of revenge.

What the Cast Had to Say

Byun Yo Han admitted he felt real pressure taking on the role, but the script won him over almost instantly — he committed just two hours after reading it. He even reached out to Cho Seung Woo, star of the original Tazza, who sent back an in-character line for encouragement: “What’s past is past.”

Roh Jae Won drew comparisons to Amadeus, framing his character’s rivalry with Jang Tae Young as a story about loving someone you’re also jealous of. “It’s a feeling that hurts more because you care about them,” he said, describing the emotional core of Park Tae Young.

Making her Korean film debut, Ayaka Miyoshi spoke about her character Kaneko’s most memorable line — “Do you want to be on the same side as me?” — highlighting the character’s sharp intelligence balanced against a surprisingly human side.

Tazza 4: Overview

A Franchise Built on Human Drama

Reflecting on what’s kept the series relevant for two decades, Byun Yo Han pointed to its “essence,” calling Tazza ultimately a story about people rather than cards. The franchise traces back to Tazza: The High Rollers, the 2006 film that became one of Korea’s highest-grossing releases that year and launched a franchise built around betrayal, ambition, and the human cost of the game.
