Just when things were looking up for Kang Pio and Choi Jeong Yo’s fragile friendship, tvN’s music drama throws a curveball. Song Kang, who plays piano prodigy Kang Pio, is left standing alone onstage in newly released stills from the drama’s third episode — and fans are bracing for heartbreak.

What Happened Before This Episode

In the previous episode, piano teacher Do Hyun Soo (Kim Joo Hun) assigned Kang Pio and Choi Jeong Yo (Lee Jun Young) a joint “four hands” performance. After discovering Jeong Yo’s crippling stage fright, Pio stepped up — comforting him and giving up his own precious practice time to help his rival-turned-friend push through the pressure. Slowly, Jeong Yo began overcoming his fear through their shared rehearsals.

What the New Stills Reveal

The newly released images show a tense turn of events: as the pair step onstage for their long-awaited duet, Jeong Yo suddenly freezes, his expression hardening before he hurries off — leaving Pio standing completely alone ahead of their performance. It’s a gut-punch moment after the emotional groundwork the two built in the previous episode, raising real questions about whether their duet will happen at all.

Why This Matters for the Story

Four Hands, Two Sonatas has built its emotional core around the tension between rivalry and friendship, and this cliffhanger threatens to undo the fragile trust Pio worked hard to build. Whether Jeong Yo’s stage fright resurfaces due to old trauma or new pressure, this moment looks set to test both characters — and their partnership — in a way the show hasn’t yet explored.
