Smartwatches are worn and adored by all. From sporting beautiful looks to offering smart functionality, smartwatches are our fashion statement.
But what makes a useful smartwatch. Is it the number of features that it offers, the OS that it comes with, or is the something else. The most crucial thing which makes a useful smartwatch is that it doesn’t break my wallet and offers excellent functionality without compromising on features.
So let’s talk about Fossil’s new Gen 5E smartwatch which comes at a more affordable price compared to its predecessor.
The new Gen 5E not only comes in variant sizes but also has 3 new 44mm styles and a new 42mm size. Maintaining the same 1.19-inch OLED the watch features a smaller bezel display.
The retail price of the watch has been toned down to $249 as compared to $259 of Gen 5 watches.
Wondering whether the company has also cut features along with the price?
Well, you guessed it right. Unfortunately, the new smartwatch offers most of the features of the existing Gen 5 but it also tones down some of the latest features in the smartwatch market.
Let’s talk about what it has.
- Sleep tracking
- Battery saver
- Fitness tracker
- Speaker
- Microphone
- Android and iOS tethering
- Google assistant
- Heart rate tracking
- Activity tracker
What doesn’t include you ask?
The smartwatch is still relying on Qualcomm snapdragon Wear 3100 processor. The world has already reached to Qualcomm wear 4100 chipsets with most of the smartwatches in the market sporting the new chipset. Fossil, we are disappointed.
On another note, the smartwatch only has 1GB of RAM and an average 300maH battery. Water-resistance is provided but is only rated as 3ATM. Meaning uses the smartwatch while doing dishes but don’t even think about wearing it while swimming. It can also handle mobile payments via NFC, which is good, I guess.
The new Fossil Gen 5E series is certainly more affordable, and it’s great that it has more size options. But It’s miserable to see the smartwatch running on a previous-generation chipset.
The new Gen 5E series will ship “close to” November 3rd, according to Fossil’s website.
