Fortnight and Apple: Legal Battle In 2024
You probably already know about the legal battle continuing between Fortnight and Apple. It started back then when Epic Games Store introduced its Fortnite game to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
At that time Apple App Store was charging a whopping sum of fees from game developers which Epic refused to pay. The fight dragged on long and ultimately Epic dropped out on iOS and Android platforms.
Not only that but it also sued Apple pressing charges of business monopoly. Till now, this case had various hearings and Epic also announced that it will keep on fighting with tech giants like Apple and Google which are taking advantage of their platforms.
Now, it’s important to see where this fight is going in 2024. Well, as we have heard recently Apple has announced its new policy that allows alternative apps on its Apple App Store.
After this announcement, Epic Game Store revealed its plans to relaunch Epic Game Store for iPhone and iPad. This will be an initial rollout in Europe first.
This announcement has more implications like now Fortnite will be available for iOS users who were missing it for more than 3 years because of a fight between Fortnite and Apple. Also, this is a sign that in the future the development of global availability of Epic Store across iOS iPadOs is possible.
However, Epic doesn’t reveal its plans about how it’s going to do all this. It just shared a post on Twitter/X sharing that it will be coming back for European iPhone and iPad users, in areas of the Digital Markets Act.
So, we can say that Epic is winning the battle of Fortnight and Apple which started three years ago. After several court hearings finally, there is some scope for improvements in the policy of Apple. However, Epic doesn’t want to stop here.
As it says further, it will keep on fighting with Apple and win for all app and game developers out there who pay a huge sum to the monopolistic reign of tech giants.
