FC Goa 1-1 Odisha FC: 3 talking points as Derrick Pereira starts tenure with draw

FC Goa and Odisha shared a point each after playing out a 1-1 draw in the ISL. Here are the three key talking points from the game.

The tables have turned

Odisha drew with FC Goa for the first time in five appearances. They have been on the losing side of the scoreline for the last four encounters that they have had. However, this season, it is a completely different story.

Odisha are trying to compete for a top four spot, while Goa are struggling in the last few spots of the table.

Derrick Pereira’s FC Goa tenure begins with a draw

Juan Ferrando left FC Goa to join ATK Mohun Bagan after only six games this season. The change in managers midseason can be quite difficult to deal with. But, considering the kind of opposition involved, a draw is a good enough result.

Derrick Pereira’s men did well to defend against a motivated Odisha FC in the second half and come away with a point in the heated encounter.

A game of two halves

Two goals close to either side of half time were the only ones scored in the 90 minutes. Ivan Gonzalez’s effort in the 42nd minute and Odisha forward Jonathan’s goal cancelled each other out.

While Goa were the better team in the first half, Odisha came out firing on all fronts in the second period. The arrival of Aridai Suarez also helped their attack, but was unable to help them gain the advantage.
