Extraction 3: Tyler Rake Is Back — Here’s Everything We Know So Far

Netflix’s adrenaline-fueled franchise is officially back in motion. Extraction 3 has begun filming, bringing Chris Hemsworth back as unstoppable mercenary Tyler Rake, alongside a returning cast and a fresh creative twist behind the scenes.

Who’s returning in Extraction 3?

Hemsworth reprises his role as Rake, joined once again by Golshifteh Farahani as his trusted ally Nik Khan, and Idris Elba returning as the enigmatic operative Alcott, who made a memorable cameo at the end of Extraction 2.

Behind the camera

Sam Hargrave — the former stunt coordinator turned action director — is back helming the film. The biggest shakeup is in the writers’ room: instead of Joe Russo, who wrote the first two films, David Weil (known for Citadel and Hunters) now pens the script. The story remains rooted in the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, whose work is documented on Wikipedia’s overview of the graphic novel medium.

Where it’s filming

After years of delays tied to Hemsworth’s schedule, cameras are officially rolling across Sydney, the NSW South Coast, and Thailand. The shoot marks a long-awaited homecoming for Hemsworth to Australia, after Extraction 2’s Sydney shoot was derailed by pandemic-era lockdowns. The production is expected to generate around 450 local jobs and contribute roughly $127 million to the Australian economy.

When to expect it: With filming running from July through October 2026, and based on the 15-month turnaround of the previous film, a late 2027 release looks realistic.
