As 2023 draws to a close, Google has unveiled the year’s most searched topics in various parts of the world. Here, we delve into the most searched topics of 2023 in India.

Chandrayaan-3 emerged as the most searched news event in India, capturing the nation’s attention with ISRO’s crucial lunar mission to touch down on the moon’s south pole, incurring a cost of ₹615 crores. Launched on July 14, 2023, Chandrayaan-3 successfully landed on the moon on August 23, becoming a memorable and widely celebrated achievement. Other notable searches included Karnataka election results, events in Israel, Budget 2023, and the passing of Matthew Perry, the actor known for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular TV show ‘Friends.’

In the realm of memes, ‘Bhupendra Jogi’ secured the top spot as the most searched meme of 2023 in India, followed by the ‘So Beautiful So Elegant’ meme and the ‘Moye Moye’ meme that gained popularity recently.

The “How to” category revealed that ‘How to reach my first 5k followers on YouTube’ was a frequently searched query, indicating a continued interest in the creator economy and content creation. Skincare-related questions also topped the search results, along with inquiries such as ‘How to get good at kabaddi?’ and ‘How to become a chess grandmaster,’ demonstrating a diverse range of interests among Indian users.

Under the “What Is” category, the third-most searched result was “What is ChatGPT?” The AI chatbot developed by OpenAI has garnered significant interest since its introduction a year ago, marking a notable evolution in the field of artificial intelligence. Additionally, ‘What is G20’ ranked as the top searched result, reflecting the significance of G20 India 2023, where global leaders convened to discuss international affairs from September 9 to 10.

In the realm of entertainment, ‘The Last Of Us’ emerged as the most popular non-Indian TV show trending in India in 2023. Among the most searched shows overall were ‘Wednesday,’ ‘Farzi,’ and ‘Asur.’ For movies, ‘Oppenheimer’ claimed the top spot, while Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ was the most searched Bollywood movie. Kiara Advani was the most searched person in India, and the search for ‘coding classes near me’ highlighted the youth’s fervent interest in software programming.
