500 Days of Escobar — The Newest Addition
500 Days of Escobar (Los 500 días de Escobar) first aired in Colombia in December 2023 and was picked up by Netflix for a worldwide release on July 19, 2024. The documentary features fresh testimony from key figures including DEA agent Javier Peña, politician María Emma Mejía Vélez, former Medellín mayor Alonso Salazar, and Escobar’s own nephew Nicolas Escobar Urquijo.
Directed by Simon Hernandez and co-written alongside journalist Jorge Cardona Alzate, the documentary focuses specifically on the intense 500-day manhunt to bring Escobar down between 1992 and 1993 — covering the most explosive final chapter of his reign of terror over Colombia.
It’s arguably the most detailed and fact-rich documentary about his downfall yet produced — essential viewing for anyone who has already binged Narcos.
The Full Pablo Escobar Universe on Netflix
Netflix has built an impressive Escobar content library over the years. Beyond 500 Days, the platform still licenses all 74 episodes of the long-running Colombian drama Pablo Escobar, El Patrón del Mal in the majority of countries worldwide. The scripted series Narcos placed Escobar at the centre of its first two seasons, while the acclaimed ESPN 30 for 30 documentary The Two Escobars — exploring the parallel lives of Pablo Escobar and Colombian footballer Andrés Escobar — is also available on Netflix in the United States.
Pablo Escobar remains one of the most documented criminal figures in modern history, and Netflix has ensured fans have no shortage of ways to explore his story — from dramatized biopics to raw investigative journalism.
