Eva Olid: The Spanish Tactician Ready to Rewrite Man Utd Women’s Story

Manchester United Women just found their next boss — and she’s arriving with a trophy in hand. Eva Olid, the 40-year-old Spanish coach who turned Hearts from relegation strugglers into Scottish champions, is set to take charge at Old Trafford, replacing Marc Skinner just weeks before the new WSL season kicks off.

It’s a bold, exciting appointment. Here’s everything you need to know about the woman stepping into one of English football’s toughest jobs.\

Who Exactly Is Eva Olid?

Olid’s coaching journey started back in 2011 at smaller Spanish clubs like Sant Quirze and Sabadell before she crossed the Atlantic to work with Houston Dynamo’s youth setup. A brief stint with the Catalan Football Association followed, but her real breakthrough came in 2021 when she took over Heart of Midlothian — a club sitting at the bottom of the table.

What she built there was remarkable: a possession-heavy, technically disciplined side that eventually lifted Hearts’ first-ever Scottish Women’s Premier League title in 2025-26, finishing two points clear of Rangers.

Eva Olid: Overview

Her Tactical Identity

Olid’s football philosophy blends Spanish possession principles, American structure, and Scottish grit — a genuinely unique mix. She’s firmly against long-ball football, instead building play patiently through the lines while keeping her team composed under pressure. That identity powered Hearts’ historic title run and is exactly what United hope she brings to the WSL.

Why This Appointment Matters

Manchester United Women have struggled for consistency, and bringing in a coach who’s proven she can build a team from scratch — rather than just manage an already-strong squad — signals real ambition. According to Manchester United Women’s F.C., the club plays in the FA Women’s Super League, the top tier of English women’s football. Olid inherits a side with resources far beyond what she had at Hearts, and the pressure to deliver will be immediate. khelnow
