England vs India 5th Test review: India dejected as England make impressive comeback

England’s Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow performed spectacularly as both smashed centuries to chase down 378 against India. The duo added an unbeaten 269-run stand for the fourth wicket to hand India a thrashing by seven wickets, eventually levelling the series 2-2.

On the first day, India produced a great comeback against England to register 338 runs with the loss of seven wickets. Rishabh Pant put in a stellar performance, scoring 146 runs from 111 balls.

On day 2 of the fifth Test match between England and India, Jasprit Bumrah’s outburst during one of Stuart Broad’s overs set a new world record as seen in India. He scored 35 runs in the most expensive over in Test cricket history. Adding to that performance, he also took three wickets to add to India’s joy.

On the third day, Cheteshwar Pujara reached fifty during the day’s final over. At 30 runs, Rishabh Pant continued to be undefeated in the meantime. In the first innings of the current fifth Test in Birmingham at Edgbaston, India bowled out England for 284, gaining a commanding 132-run lead as Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah each claimed four wickets.

On the fourth day of the proceedings, England turned the series around which was in India’s favour after the end of day 3. An undefeated 150-run partnership between Joe Root (76 not out) and Jonny Bairstow (72 not out) held England in the driving seat against India.

Finally on the fifth day, England defeated India by seven wickets. The hosts were able to defeat a 378-run goal in the fourth innings thanks to an unbroken partnership of 269 runs between the pair for the fourth wicket. Their best chase in the final innings of a test match was this one.
