Elena Rybakina wins 2022 Wimbledon Women’s Title

Elena Rybakina defeated Ons Jabeur 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the Wimbledon final to claim the singles ladies title for the 2022 edition of the tournament. 

She has become the first player from Kazakhstan to win a Grand Slam Title, and did so in fearless fashion. She was a little shaky during the 5-2 decider, but was able to hold on until the end to claim her title.

“I’m speechless,” Elena Rybakina said after winning the championship. 

“The crowd were unbelievable and I want to congratulate Ons, you are an inspiration. It was a joy to play against you.

“It’s an honour to play here in this unbelievable atmosphere.

“I didn’t expect to be in the second week. To be a winner is just amazing. I wouldn’t be here without my team of course, so I want to say a big thanks to them. And most importantly my parents.” 

At 23, she has become the youngest player to lift the dish since 2011. Ons Jabeur was able to gain control of the game during its initial stages. But, it was a brilliant comeback from Rybanika that helped the Russian-born win the Wimbledon final. She dropped just four games in the second and third set to make it past the finish line, and make history for herself.
