Here’s why the El Clasico matches happen almost on the same dates every season

The final El Clasico of the 2021-22 season is scheduled to take place tonight on 20th March 2022. In the first El Clasico of this season, Real Madrid emerged victoriously and has won the last 5 meetings between the two sides.

However, there’s a similarity between the El Clasico matches of every season. The dates on which Real Madrid and Barcelona play each other are almost same each season.

Here’s why the El Clasico matches happen almost on the same dates every season

According to a report by AS, various factors are there while determining the dates on which the matches between Real Madrid and Barcelona happen every season. It is stated in the report that “This will be the fourth consecutive season that it will be played between the 26th and 30th days. The same happens with the first round, which has settled on the calendar at the end of March, between the third and fourth day of the Champions League group stage.”

The first round of El Clasico is not scheduled at the early stages of the season so that both the teams arrive in the match in competitive mode. The second El Clasico is also scheduled not too late so that it still has a meaning in deciding the fate of the La Liga title race.

The matches are also not scheduled in midweek fixtures and on public holidays to avoid low attendance in the biggest match of Spanish domestic football.

The Real Madrid-Barcelona, Atletico Madrid-Barcelona, Real Madrid-Atletico Madrid and the other derbies have specific times on the La Liga calendar to add more meaning to the title race and to avoid a long run of matches without big and exciting matches.
