East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan: The Stakes
East Bengal are chasing a record 30th IFA Shield title. They lost the 2025 final to Mohun Bagan, so revenge is a big motivator. They also beat Mohun Bagan in the recent Durand Cup final and arrive in flying form after a 7-2 win over NorthEast United.
Mohun Bagan reached the final the hard way, beating Punjab FC on penalties thanks to Vishal Kaith’s heroics. Losing back-to-back finals to their rivals would pile pressure on coach Panagiotis Dilmperis, so expect a fearless, attacking approach.
Team News and Predicted XIs
Both clubs should field largely the same squads as in their last games. East Bengal have doubts over Anwar Ali and Prabhsukhan Gill after national duty, while Mohun Bagan’s international returnees are unlikely to start.

Players to Watch
Miguel Figueira (Mohun Bagan): He helped East Bengal win the 2025-26 ISL title, then moved across the city. He hasn’t scored at this tournament yet, and a first goal against his old club would be dramatic.
Bipin Singh (East Bengal): He has a history of troubling Mohun Bagan in finals and impressed in the Durand Cup final win. His pace and crosses on the flank could be decisive.

Prediction
It’s tight, but East Bengal’s recent form and their Durand Cup win give them a slight edge in our view. Derbies often defy logic though, so don’t rule out another penalty shootout.
