Mohanlal fans, you asked for it and the numbers delivered. Drishyam 3, the most anticipated Malayalam film of the year, has arrived with a thunderous opening that’s already rewriting records. Directed by Jeethu Joseph, the family crime drama pulled in Rs. 18.40 crore gross across India on its very first day — and that’s just the beginning.

Drishyam 3 India Opening Day Box Office — Area-Wise Breakdown

Region	Day 1 Collection
Kerala	Rs. 11.00 crore
Karnataka	Rs. 2.75 crore
Andhra Pradesh / Telangana	Rs. 2.15 crore
Tamil Nadu	Rs. 1.20 crore
Rest of India	Rs. 1.30 crore
Total India (Gross)	Rs. 18.40 crore

Kerala, as expected, led the charge with a massive Rs. 11 crore on Day 1 alone — one of the biggest single-day openings the state has ever seen for a Malayalam film. But what’s truly remarkable is the pan-India story. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Drishyam 3 shattered the record for the biggest opening day ever by a Malayalam film in that territory, clocking Rs. 2.15 crore. Tamil Nadu and the rest of India also chipped in solidly at Rs. 1.20 crore and Rs. 1.30 crore respectively.

A Record That Speaks Volumes

Drishyam 3 now stands as the second biggest opening day ever for a Malayalam film at the Indian box office — trailing only L2: Empuraan, which also featured Mohanlal. The fact that a family crime drama, not an action extravaganza, is pulling these kinds of numbers says everything about the franchise’s hold on Indian audiences.

The Drishyam film series has been a cultural phenomenon since the original Malayalam film released in 2013. The franchise’s unique blend of family drama and crime thriller has created one of the most loyal fanbases in Indian cinema.

What Lies Ahead for Drishyam 3?

Based on its opening-day momentum, the film is expected to post a phenomenal first weekend. With word-of-mouth already buzzing positively, the threequel has a genuine shot at challenging the top Malayalam grossers of recent times — including Vaazha 2, Lokah Chapter One, and Thudarum. A Rs. 100 crore-plus run pan-India looks very much on the cards if the weekend holds strong.
