The Key Details

Who’s Actually in This Thing?

The cast list reads like a Marvel fan’s fever dream. Robert Downey Jr. steps into the role of Victor von Doom, one of the most iconic villains in comic history, having debuted in Fantastic Four issue five back in 1962. Alongside him, expect Vanessa Kirby, Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, and a small army of returning Marvel Cinematic Universe faces old and new.

Downey Jr. previously played Tony Stark/Iron Man from 2008’s original “Iron Man” through 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” so seeing him return as the franchise’s most dangerous antagonist is a genuinely wild swing, and one that’s paying off in early reactions.

Why Everyone’s Talking About It

Between Thor’s unfamiliar fear, Cap wielding Mjölnir, and three separate movie universes crashing together, this trailer has done exactly what a good tease should: leave fans with more questions than answers. And with San Diego Comic Con’s Marvel Studios Hall H panel happening on July 25, more footage could be just days away.
